Calgary’s first (and Alberta’s second) Apple Store opened this past Saturday at 9:30am! Michelle and I arrived at roughly the same time as the Edmonton grand opening, and ended up being 33rd & 34th in line at 7:30am.
There were lots of similarities between the Calgary and the Edmonton Apple Store openings. First off, the first guy in line was the same. In fact, we noticed the first guy was already in line and prepared 8:00pm the previous day! The dimming of the lights, the high-fives, the cheer tunnel, the lack of sale-priced goods, and the XL Apple t-shirt by American Apparel were all the same.
All in all, fun experience, and my mom even saw me on TV! Greaaattt…

Sounds like we didn’t miss much by not making it down! Cool that you went though. Is it the same size as the Edmonton store?
Hey Mack, thanks for dropping by. Its the same size and everything as the Edmonton store… the most amusing part is the placement just across from the Sony Style store.
Hi Jon, nice chatting with you again at the Grand Opening!
My impression is that, when comparing with the Edmonton store, there’s less people lining up early in the morning in Calgary and significantly more after 9:30. Maybe it’s because the Edmonton store is located on the 2nd level. Therefore, after the initial high-fives, not that many people noticed there’s a new store up there. On the other hand, Market Mall has only one level so it’s real hard to miss the crowd.
And I think the first two in line, Alex and Dan, did manage to visit the Fairview store in Toronto on the same day. Impressive!
